A little over a year ago, my son, Charlie, and I met an incredible little girl, Aubree, and her mother, Stephanie. Aubree had a stroke while in utero which has affected the right side of her body, and she has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Until I met her, I had never even heard of a child having a stroke. Aubree is beautiful and smart and so much more sophisticated than Charlie, so, of course, he fell in love right away, and it has been amazing to watch her progress these last twelve months. I have never known a person who works as hard as Aubree, or Stephanie for that matter. She does horse therapy and swimming, is signing and talking, and keeps all the boys in our group in line–or at least tries to.
In 2002, CHASA (Children’s Hemiplegia and Stroke Association) founded Pediatric Stoke Awareness day on the first Saturday in May, and in 2010 expanded that into Pediatric Stroke Awareness Month. For the past two years, Stephanie has written to the Governor of New Mexico, and had May recognized officially as Pediatric Stroke Awareness Month in our state. CHASA is an organization that provides support and information for families whose children have hemiplegia, hemiparesis, or hemiplegic cerebral palsy.
Stephanie has been an amazing friend to me, and Aubree is pretty good at putting up with Charlie, so I am really excited to help them raise money this May for CHASA. In honor of Aubree, on May 26th I will be offering 20 minute mini sessions for $50, which will include 10 edited images in a private online gallery and a Facebook timeline cover. The entire session fee will be donated to CHASA in her name.
In addition, Turtle Mountain Brewing Company will donate $1 to CHASA for every Chimayo and Ojo Caliente ordered on May 19th. My husband has worked for Turtle for a little over ten years now, and I can promise you you won’t find a place to eat with better food or better people. And, if you bring your receipt from Turtle showing your purchase of a Chimayo or Ojo Caliente pizza to your photo session, you will get 25% off your print order.
